Managing your layers

Every layer you request or upload lands in the Layer manager, opened from the Manage layers button on the Layers widget. Its Manage layers tab is where you keep everything tidy.

Each layer has a Display name field. Type a name that makes sense to your crew (“Spring drone flyover”, “2023 survey”) and it saves as soon as you click away. The clearer the name, the faster everyone finds the right layer.

Every layer has a Shown in widget / Hidden from widget switch. Hiding one doesn’t delete it, it just tucks it out of the Layers widget so your everyday list stays short. Flip it back on any time.

When you’re truly done with a layer, use Delete layer. This one’s permanent, it removes the imagery and its record for good, so Turfile asks you to confirm with your password first. There’s no undo, so delete with intent.

Already have imagery? Bring it in from the Upload data tab.

  1. Add your file and give the layer a name.

  2. Click Upload + Trigger Tiling. Keep the page open until the upload hits 100%, after that, processing runs in the background and you’re free to leave.

  3. Turfile emails you when the layer is live. Until then it shows as Processing in your list.

Managing and uploading layers need edit access and an eligible plan, so if the controls look locked, that’s usually why. Check your role, or reach out to us at support@turfile.com.
